Political Bumper Stickers

When I was growing up in England, bumper stickers were fairly popular.  "My other car's a Porsche!" and other such 'humor.'  But somewhere in the 80s people began to realize that there were something tacky and unpleasant about attaching a piece of plastic to your car, and so the tradition quickly died out.

In America though the bumper sticker lives on, and political bumper stickers are still quite popular.  However, the one thing I cannot fathom is what would possess someone, in 2011 to still be driving around with a McCain / Palin sticker on their vehicle other than rank stupidity.  I mean it wasn't like that decrepit old man and the bimbo was ever a viable option for President in the first place, but to actually still believe in 2011, that our country would be better off if the old man were in charge is utter craziness.

This is what leaves me so incredulous when I see these stickers still on cars, it's the fact that not only was a person so misguided they would have supported that ticket in the first place, but now after all these years they still think that those couple of tards should have won!

I guess the only good thing about the McCain / Palin sticker on a vehicle is it saves me the bother of trying to spot the morons.  After all, if you have a McCain / Palin sticker on your car, you are a moron, plain and simple.  You might just as well get a bumper sticker that says, "I lack any kind of good judgement, and I'm a fucking idiot."  But I guess McCain / Palin sums it up more succinctly.

Shut Up Old Man

Like Sarah Palin, granpa McCain won't shut up this week either. Speaking about the Obama administration this week he said, "This staggering deficit threatens our children's and grandchildren's future and simply cannot be sustained." As a follow up he said, "I call on my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to chart a different course toward real change and fiscal responsibility."

Now as someone who was living in America during the entire Bush administration, this is a real What The Fuck? moment for me.

As we learned during McCain's latest failed Presidential bid, this guy voted with George Bush well over 90% of the time, and helped guide us down the road to financial ruin. Rather than speaking out against Bush's moronic policies, he was repeatedly quoted as saying, "I support George Bush."

The thing that just amazes me about Republican politics is the boldness with which they fake outrage and make statements as if there were no such thing as recorded history.

Republicans have spent the first 50 or so days of the new Presidency wagging their fingers and telling us all what horrible mistakes Obama is making. Darth Cheney even did an interview this week in which he told us we were all less safe now (only a Sith deal in absolutes).

Make no mistake, the Republicans headed up by George Bush, took us down this catastrophic path of failure and destruction. Now they think they can stand on the sidelines and tell Democrats how to fix the mess?

Rather than being obstructive and talking about more tax cuts for the wealthy, how about you Republicans denounce the failures of George Bush? How about you admit that you fucked up repeatedly and helped drop our economy in the shitter with a meaningless war in Iraq? Then maybe you will have some credibility when you present new ideas.

No one wants to hear a bunch of negative doom and gloom crap from the opposition. Let's hear your actual concrete plans to fix these problems that your party created.

And someone tell McCain to retire. He is old, useless and out of touch.

Ashley Todd Escapes Jail

McCain campaign worker Ashley Todd has struck a deal with prosecutors to avoid jail over her racist anti-Obama lies.

20-year-old Todd claimed that a large black man robbed her at knife point and carved the letter B into her face, because he was angry over her McCain Palin sticker.

After all evidence pointed to the fact she made up the story, she eventually admitted she had indeed made the whole thing up.

She has agreed to undergo mental health treatment, and complete a program for first time offenders. If she stays out of trouble she will eventually have her criminal record expunged.

On a lighter note, GO VOLS!

Sarah Palin - No Comment

So it's been a little while now since the announcement of Sarah Palin as the Republican VP candidate. Many facts have come to light about this woman, and many lies have been told too.

But what is interesting is that despite all the mud slinging, and disturbing verified facts about this possible president of the USA, is the fact that Sarah Palin herself has been reluctant to speak out in her own defense (or for any other reason for that matter).

In this article by the Associated Press we learn that since her acceptance speech she has toured around with McCain. Made various public appearances, but said pretty much nothing. Sure some lucky folks have heard her regurgitate portions of her acceptance speech, but in terms of who she is and what she believes, nothing. Likewise no rebuttle of the scary things we have learned about her.

The press have been kept at arms length by a team of handlers, and almost all of her comments have been made off record.

The Republican campaign manager, Rick Davis, told Fox News that she would conduct an interview, "when we think it's time and when she feels comfortable doing it." But then added that she was, "not scared to answer questions."

So just to recap, she's said nothing to defend herself against the numerous allegations made against her. She's unwilling to tell us what she personally believes in, on pretty much any subject. And although she is not 'scared' to answer questions, she will hand pick an interviewer when she feels 'comfortable' doing so. Seriously, what the fuck?

The election is some 54 days away. And this radical right wing fanatic who believes in speaking in tongues and faith healing, is not going to share with us her views on the world?

But there is more to the story than this. It's not just the fact that she won't tell us what she thinks, the issue for me is the inherent sexism, control and secrecy of this campaign. We've just about reached the end of the Bush era of double talk, lies, and refusal to participate in transparent government, and now here we have old man McCain keeping his VP under total control.

Is this because he is afraid of what she might say? Is it because she is a woman and Republicans tend to be inherently sexist? Are they terrified that the truth about this woman will get in the way of their message (or scare the shit out of voters)? What's the deal?

Maybe they are just afraid people will find out that her assertion that she sold the state private jet on eBay was a lie, like so many other things she said in her acceptance speech.

I Endorse Obama

Recently I met someone playing poker and later discovered they had a blog. Upon reading it I came to an important realization: Blogs are supposed to be updated on a regular basis. I guess I didn't get the memo because I've clearly been a lazy bastard recently (where recent is probably a couple of decades or so) and I've not been keeping up with the blogging thing.

I'm sure the legions of fans have been missing my pointless rambling over the past few months, and therefore I wanted to reward their patience with a new post.

As we continue the incredibly long and tedious path to the White House it seems we are left, as usual, with a decision between two politicians. There are a large chunk of Americans who have to vote along party lines. Either you are pro life or pro choice, pro guns or uninterested in guns, gay hating or tolerant, etc. American politics appears to take the basic issues, pretend there is no gray area, and then guilt you in to voting in order to support your cause.

Personally, I can't vote. Something about being a damn immigrant. But if I were to vote, it would have to be for Obama.

I actually think he has a good message. Some say he is all fluff and no policy, but if you switch off Fox News for a moment and visit the Obama web site you'll see that he is detailed and clear about all the major issues. So if you think he is full of fluff, you aren't paying attention.

Then we have John McCain. Oh dear. Let's be clear about this. If he were in the work place, the only job he would seriously be considered for is a greeter at Wal-Mart. The guy is 71, going on 72. If he made two terms he would be 80. I'm sorry, to have to say this, but people of that age are not fit to run anything. They need to sit back and let the living take care of the world. They should restrict their politics to grumbling about the good old days to anyone that would listen.

Now, I know that may come across as harsh, but it's reality. This country does not need some doddery old fogey at the helm, regardless of his policies. But sadly his policies don't really make him any more appealing. He has talked about the need to distance ourselves from Russia and China. He has suggested ideas and policies that could bring about a new cold war, and hurt relations with a country that makes almost everything we buy. Then throw in the usual right wing crap about guns, abortions and sanctity of marriage, and you have George Bush II: This Time He's Old, And A Bit Less Of A Dick.

After eight years of being ass raped by George Bush, it is amazing that there is anyone left who would support a candidate so similar to what we are about to get rid of. I don't think that Obama is perfect. But then I have a general disdain for all politicians. However, the clear reality is, a vote for McCain is horrific act of unbridled stupidity.
