Obama's Trip to India

This morning as I read some sites around the Internet, I see that the latest right wing gripe is that our President is going to be spending 200 million dollars a day on his four day trip to India.  This figure has been talked about on Rush Limbaugh's radio show, and on various right wing blogs and forums.  In fact I've even seen the trip inflated to $2Bn or 'billions.'

First off, FactCheck.org have proven that there is no evidence whatsoever that the trip will cost this much.  The White House has explained that the figures are wildly exaggerated.  Yet all around the Internet (and I'm guessing on Fox News at some point), people keep repeating the same lies.

Now I have two issues with this (actually I have more, but two is all I'm prepared to write about).  First off, President Obama didn't invent the infrastructure of Presidential visits.  Airforce One, the Secret Service, all that stuff was put in place decades ago.  So let's not get all sanctimonious about how much it costs for a President to visit a foreign country.

Secondly, what I want to know is why Obama's opponents have to lie to spread dislike for the President?  First they told us he did nothing, next they told us he was doing too much.  He's been likened to Hitler and various other evil people.  We've been told by his detractors that he should be impeached, that he isn't even American, that he's a Muslim and all that other garbage.  But my question is this:  If Barrack Hussein Obama is indeed such a terrible President, and is hurting our country so much, why don't you present me with FACTS about his wrongdoing?  Tell me WHY I should hate this man.  Tell me why I should vote against him in the next election.

Seriously, if Obama is as bad as Hitler, shouldn't we have some real dirt on him by now?  If he is a Muslim, don't we have some pictures of him praying to Mecca?  If the best you can do is make up lies about how much a Presidential trip abroad is costing, doesn't is show an inherent weakness to your argument?  Or could it be that you are just a racist fucktard and you don't really have a case to make at all?  Just a thought.

If the best you can do is make up lies about fox news and it's fictitious reporting, doesn't it show an inherent weakness to your argument? Or could it be that you are just a racist fucktard and you don't really have a case to make at all? Just a thought.

Well Anonymous person let me try and answer you.

I'm not sure what lies I made up about Fox News, I merely suggested that they have probably mentioned this $200m figure at some point. Correct me if I am wrong. We do know for a fact that this figure has been banded about online and by right wing talk show hosts.

As for my being a racist fucktard, I don't really see how, based on this article.

It seems to me like you are merely trying to throw an insult in a 'clever' way by using my own words against me.

There is nothing racist in the question I asked in this article. I merely asked the question, if Obama is so evil, why is questioning his trip to India with fabricated financial figures the best the right has to throw at him? Don't they have any better dirt?

What is racist in questioning his trip to India with financial figures fabricated or otherwise?

I have no idea. Anonymous wrote, "Or could it be that you are just a racist fucktard and you don't really have a case to make at all?"

You're the one throwing the "racist" word around. Thought you might have some reasoning behind it.
Guess you're just a fucktard with no case to make at all.

My 'case' is really very simple. If Obama is so horrible, why do his detractors not use REAL examples of his crapulence, as opposed to simply making up stuff like this? It's not hard to follow this logic if you try.

As for the issue of race, I use it because it is a serious factor. When white American presidents were opposed, rarely did we see this level of vitriol, an effort to demonstrate that they were different (like how people emphasize Obama's middle name), and this in my opinion means that at least on some level there is a degree of racism going on.

Conservatives didn't like Clinton, but they weren't calling him a Nazi, Marxist, Socialist, etc. So in my opinion people that do this about Obama and liken him to Hitler are simply being hateful, at least in some part due to the issue of Obama's race.

You can choose to agree or disagree, but you are kind of making a straw man argument anyway since that wasn't the thrust of my original post.

So instead of providing any facts that show this is false, you instead provide more claims that it is unlikely that are just as unsubstantiated as the claims that it's true.

If you look at my article, I have a link to Factcheck.org who researched this story.

In any case, I'm not the one who made up the numbers. It's not for me to prove the numbers are wrong, the burden of proof is on those who claim this to be reality.

If I claim I can fly by flapping my arms, it's not your job to disprove my statement, it is my job to prove my claim.

As far as my accusation of a racist element among the anti-Obama movements, I have already stated my case, and that this is merely an opinion, something to which we are all entitled.

Rather than try to cut and paste things I have said as an insult, why don't you prove you are more than just a troll by actually articulating your position in detail? Or do you prefer to troll the Internet looking for an argument in lieu of an intelligent viewpoint?

An anonymous person added a comment here, which he or she deleted or my blog deleted for some reason. Anyway for that I apologize, I will post my response anyway...

"1st off "Anonymous" isn't someones name it's an option in the comments. So you're talking with more than one person."

Yes, I've hosted a blog here for five years, I am fully aware of how it works. But when people are too lazy to sign in with Google, OpenID or even add a name, I have to guess. I'm not magic.

"In regards to your racist comment it's unwarranted and the sad part is that you're too fucking dumb to realize that when you throw that word around as a catchall for people you disagree with then you dilute it's true meaning. If race relations even registered on your give-a-fuck-o-meter then you'd refrain from it."

Sorry but I firmly believe that there are a lot of racists out there who are using the cover of the Tea Party and various non-racial slurs because it drives them crazy that a black man is in office. I've spoken to plenty of people who can't stand a black man in the White House. But even racists don't like to go to KKK meetings these days, but a Tea Party rally is far more palatable.

It seems odd that before Obama had really done anything at all we were seeing Hitler Obama pictures and hearing the slogan 'take back' our country.

Just because you choose not to see it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. I firmly believe it, although that wasn't the main thrust of my point.

"Your excuses for using it show that you either haven't been paying attention to politics here in the states very long or you have a very selective memory. Either way you're way the fuck off base."

In your opinion, and just because you have an opinion doesn't mean that I am wrong.

"Search google Clinton is like hitler, or Bush is like hitler, or any other fucking politician being compared to hitler and you'll find there are literally 100's of 1000's of results. He's just the only one that can play the race card which tools like you readily play at any chance."

I would say if anything Obama has not played the race card. But then he shouldn't have to.

"No it's not a strawman you brought it up. I guess you thought you could just sneak that in there and nobody would call you on it. Wrong again."

You took a tiny part of a post about something completely different and went off on a rant about it. Your rant was disproportional to the percentage of my article that included that theme.

"No it's not hard at all to follow logic unfortunately there is little logic in your post. Your premise is that detractors do not use real examples of his crapulence. Once again either you are a total fucking idiot when it comes to politics or you have a selective memory. Either way you are wrong. There are plenty of reasons why people think Obama is a tool, you just happened to pick two that are pretty lame reasons."

I picked this one specifically because it is topical and in the news. I comment on current news stories as I see fit. This is one in a long line of none issues that liars and the Glen Becks of this world pick up on and run with for no good reason other than to smear the President and push their agenda.

My point is pretty simple, which is that if he is as bad a leader as you and his detractors assert there should be a huge long list of things to complain about.

I watched Yahoo! Answers for a good hour or so this morning, and this was the most common anti-Obama theme. The people posting seemed outraged that our President should travel abroad and (shock horror) try to engage in diplomacy with our friends.

Despite Bush setting the American record for the most vacation days for a sitting President, people who hate Obama always seem to portray his trips as frivolous, unimportant or fruitless. Such an opinion is stupid and isolationist.

"Birthers are fucking idiots, people that give a fuck about his traveling habits are fucking idiots."

Well there are a lot of them about.

"You just want to act like there are two kinds of people. Those that like obama, and those that are birthers. Find your logic??????pffff....there is none."

If that were my assertion that would be pretty illogical. But it is intellectually dishonest to pretend that.

"Since you do seem new to politics here's one for you."

Er, go fuck yourself. It's pretty obvious I've been writing a political blog for five years, and following politics in America closely for ten, when I moved here. Prior to that I followed events from England via the BBC; a real news organization.

"(besides the fact you called a racist if you disagree with him EVEN WHEN YOU'RE BLACK!!!!"

So are you now asserting that black people are not capable of being racist? Seriously? I thought you were pretending to be the expert on racial issues earlier.

"He is a lying mother fucker."

Surely not. A politician who lies? Unheard of.

"He promised health care debates on cspan and then inked the deal behind closed doors."

He tried to have a genuine debate and discussion about health care, and the Republicans flat told him they would fight him with everything they had to prevent any reform of health care. So what choice did he have? What he did was proceed as best he could based on the promises he made during the election, with no help from those fucking Republican assholes that don't give a shit about people dying or losing everything because they got sick.

ZCT said...

"He said no more pork and then proceeded to pass the most pork laden bill in US history. Need more I got plenty..."

Well you'd have to be more specific if you want a discussion on that.

At the end of the day, I don't really give a fuck what you think. The fact of the matter is this. During the last presidential election we were faced with a choice of old man McCain and his bimbo idiot side kick, or Obama.

It is astonishing to me that anyone could see that choice and consider McCain for a moment. Apart from anything else, he is too old to do the job. He told us the economy was just fine right before it collapsed. He lied and misrepresented himself as best he could to be elected (if you check my archives I've got YouTube videos showing him lying and contradicting himself - flip flop anyone?). And he supported the very policies that put us in the shit in the first place. He was even part of the party that fucked us in the ass in the first place.

Do I think that Obama is the perfect politician? No. Was he the better of the only two choices available, fuck yes.

But if you are still in the mood to continue this, maybe you could write in and tell me just how old man McCain would have been a better choice for us, because that I'd love to see. I do like a good laugh.

"following politics in America closely for ten"
kinda what I figured. That's all that really needs to be said.

ZCT said...

Yeah, okay. Well you can go fuck yourself.

I may have only lived here for ten years, but you'll find that other countries actually have real news and something called journalists. So you can actually follow what's going on without even being there.

Perhaps America should consider getting such a thing.

Anyway, since your comments have now degenerated into name calling and childish one liners, please consider your comments no longer welcome here.

For what it's worth though, I do appreciate you demonstrating for my readers that I wasn't off base when I called people like you fucktards. You played the role beautifully.
