Republicans continue to stoup to new lows in this presidential campaign.
The latest smear attempt involved offering to pay a leading academic $10,000 to find similarities between Barack Obama's book 'Dreams from My Father' and the Bill Ayres (the 'terrorist' they accuse Obama of 'palling around' with) book 'Fugitive Days.'
The academic in question, Dr Peter Millican, has developed software that can identify similarities in writing style, and can show if two books have been written by the same person. Republicans were hoping to prove that Obama's book was written by Ayres.
Dr. Millican took a primiliary look at the two books, and said that the connection was 'highly implausible.' But he said he would only carry out the research on the basis that he would publish his findings whether or not the link to Ayres was substantiated.
After he placed that condition on his research, the project was dumped by Republican smear artists.
